Empowerment is at the heart of HAkA's approach to conservation. By directly engaging local communities, HAkA helps equip them with the knowledge and tools necessary to sustainably manage their natural resources.
This includes fostering local leadership, encouraging the formation of community associations, and promoting sustainable livelihoods aligned with environmental conservation.
HAkA’s empowerment initiatives also include capacity building for partner NGOs, government agencies, and other community groups, to ensure that all stakeholders have the skills and resources necessary to contribute effectively to the protection of the Leuser Ecosystem.
By empowering communities, HAkA supports them in taking control of their development, enabling them to advocate for their rights and participate meaningfully in decision-making processes that affect their environment.
