Institutional Contribution
The HAkA Foundation believes that environmental preservation can only be achieved if the voices of the public and science are present in decision-making spaces. Through participation, HAkA is actively involved in various development planning and spatial planning processes in Aceh, ensuring that public policies remain environmentally conscious and support forest sustainability and biodiversity.
In every forum, from the development of the Aceh Regional Spatial Plan (RTRWA) to sectoral policy consultations, HAkA brings data, analysis, and community perspectives to the table to ensure development does not compromise vital ecosystems like the Leuser Ecosystem. This approach strengthens the community's position as part of the solution, not simply as affected parties.

Collaboration for Fair and Sustainable Policies
HAkA does not operate in isolation. This organization actively collaborates with local governments, academics, non-governmental organizations, and local communities to oversee public policy. Through consultation forums, public hearings, and the development of technical documents, HAkA strives to ensure that every development policy in Aceh is based on the following principles:
- Protection of areas of high ecological value,
- Community involvement in the planning process,
- Fair and sustainable use of natural resources,
- Transparency in decision making.
This collaborative approach has opened up a space for dialogue between government and communities—a space where science, field experience, and local values converge to create an equitable development path.
Representing Nature, Strengthening Communities
Participation also means ensuring communities have the capacity and courage to speak out. HAkA assists community groups, academics, and journalists in understanding spatial planning processes so they can contribute meaningfully in public forums. This way, forests and their surrounding communities become part of Aceh’s sustainable development narrative—rather than victims of hasty development.
