Literacy for Climate Action Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency BMKG Aceh
The HAkA Foundation attended the opening ceremony and sent two young participants to the “Literacy for Climate Action” event organized by the Aceh branch of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
The opening ceremony commenced with a report from the Chair of the Climate Literacy Committee, Mr. Muhajir, M.Si., who is the Head of the BMKG Climatology Station in Aceh (Indrapuri). Remarks were also delivered by the Acting Mayor of Banda Aceh, the BMKG Deputy for Climatology, and the Rector of Syiah Kuala University.
The HAkA Foundation was asked to send two young staff members to attend the event organized by BMKG. The event took place over two days, on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 8–9, 2024. The first day featured two panel discussion sessions. The morning session included a presentation from the Environment and Forestry Agency (DLHK) on “Climate Change Activities at DLHK.” Other speakers included BMKG representatives Eko Cahyo P (SP, M.Si) and Siswanto (M.Sc., PhD), who presented on “Climate Change Data and Facts.” The afternoon session featured Dr. Ir. Wira Dharma (S.Si, M.Si, M.P.) speaking on “Changes in Climate Types in Aceh Based on Cloud Data”; Dr. Saumi Syahreza (S.Si, M.Si) discussing “The Impact of Climate Change on Hydrometeorological Threats in Aceh Province”; and finally, Rizanna Rosemary (S.Sos, M.Si, MHC, PhD) presenting on “From Awareness to Action: The Role of Communities in Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation.”
On the second day, participants gathered at the USK Waste Bank. Staff members explained organic waste management to the participants. This was followed by a presentation from the e-tikbroh.yak team regarding the role of youth in climate action (an introduction to e-tikbroh.yak) and ecobrick making.
