Aceh Journalists Learn Forest Monitoring Technology Using Satellites

The HAkA Foundation held training on the use of GFW for journalists on July 2 2026. On this occasion journalists from AJI Banda Aceh, Bithe.co, Antara TV, Seputar Aceh.id, Waspada.id, WaspadaAceh.com, Beritasatu.com, Rmol Aceh, SCTV, Acehinfo.id, Metro TV, AJNN, Biology UIN Ar Raniry, Masakini.co, Harian Rakyat Aceh, Analisa Aceh, Dialeksis, Modus Aceh, IDN Times, Antarafoto.com. Participants consisted of 9 men and 14 women.

This workshop addresses journalists’ need for training on simple and practical forest monitoring tools. The activity successfully reached journalists with more diverse backgrounds, including participants who had little or no experience covering environmental issues. The materials and tools introduced are compiled based on the results of the pre-assessment, so that they are in accordance with the needs of participants and can be directly used for basic checks, such as identifying forest areas and monitoring changes in forest cover. For participants new to environmental issues, the workshop provides basic knowledge and skills that can support data-driven reporting.
