Forest Cover and Wildlife Trade Ruling Data Visualization Competition

As part of the series Bu-Moe? Fest 2025 From May 15 to June 12, 2025, the Data Visualization Competition on Forest Cover and Wildlife Trade Rulings is being held as a data-driven contest that encourages young people to transform environmental issues into visual formats that are informative and easily understood by the public. This initiative represents an innovative campaign that integrates data, technology, and environmental advocacy into a creative medium relevant to the digital age.

The competition drew 102 teams from across Indonesia, with a total of 242 registered participants, and 48 teams successfully submitted their final projects. Participants processed data regarding the Leuser Ecosystem Area, Aceh’s forest cover, and wildlife trafficking cases into interactive dashboards using platforms such as Tableau, Looker Studio, and Power BI. The resulting projects are not only informative but also designed for reuse in advocacy and public campaign contexts.

Through this initiative, Bu-Moe? Fest 2025 creates a space for collaboration between data and creativity, offering a novel approach to raising awareness about environmental issues. The three best entries are intended for use by partner organizations—such as the HAkA Foundation—to bolster information dissemination and advocacy efforts. Thus, the competition not only yields creative works but also directly contributes to strengthening broader, more sustainable data-driven environmental campaigns.
