Strengthening the Role of Teungku in Environmental Preaching: The HAkA Foundation’s Commitment to Responding to Aceh’s Climate Crisis through Religious Space
The HAkA Foundation’s commitment to integrating environmental issues into religious spaces continues through its collaboration with Dayah Nurul Huda in Manggamat, South Aceh. Thirty people, including religious teachers (teungku), dayah leaders, and preachers from the Southwest region of Aceh, participated in an environmental outreach training program. “Strengthening the Role of Teungku in Environmental Da’wah: Islam, Nature, and Solutions to the Climate Crisis in Aceh” held in Tapak Tuan on January 30–February 1, 2026.
This activity was also attended by Abah Muhib, a representative of the Aceh MPU, in the Environmental Fiqh session: The Role of Ulama in Forest and Wildlife Conservation. and a review of the MPU’s fatwa on wildlife hunting and trade from an Islamic perspective. The event was also attended by Mr. Bintara Yakub, a traditional leader in Manggamat, South Aceh, for a session on local wisdom in South Aceh regarding wildlife conservation.
Through this training, HAkA seeks to strengthen the understanding that environmental preservation is an integral part of Islamic teachings, not an additional issue or merely a global discourse. The values of monotheism, trustworthiness, and ecological justice are the primary foundations for developing a missionary narrative that supports the preservation of Aceh’s forests, wildlife, and ecosystem balance.
