Tropical Cyclone Senyar and Its Impact
Tropical cyclone Senyar, initially a cyclone named 9B, developed in the Strait of Malacca. It then intensified into tropical cyclone 4B, finally named Senyar. This tropical cyclone is considered rare because it occurred near the equator and made landfall on the island of Sumatra. The eye of the tropical cyclone made landfall north of Langsa. Initially predicted to move north, the eye of the cyclone eventually turned southward toward Medan and moved away toward Kuala Lumpur. This cyclone produced extreme rainfall in Aceh and caused severe flooding in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
