Protecting wildlife is everyone's responsibility

A successful socialization event was conducted on May 7, 2024, at the Aceh Timur Police District. This event opened by the Deputy Chief of Police of Aceh Timur, Kompol Iswar, S.H., who firmly emphasized the importance of preserving wildlife. He conveyed that the misuse of airguns has threatened the survival of various species in Aceh Timur, particularly protected animals like orangutans and Sumatran tigers. As a resource person, Dr. Taing Lubis from the Aceh Natural Resources Conservation Agency presented the latest data showing a decline in animal populations due to hunting. He also explained the significance of maintaining ecological balance. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Aceh Timur MPU, Tgk. H. Mukhtar Ibrahim, provided a religious perspective on the importance of preserving nature. In a warm forum discussion, participants consisting of village heads, community elders, village security officials, and district representatives from 18 villages and 10 districts in Aceh Timur actively asked questions and shared experiences.

This event produced several important agreements, including: increasing joint patrols to prevent hunting, forming community-based tourism groups to manage conservation areas, and strengthening the role of religious leaders in campaigning for wildlife conservation. This socialization event is a good initial step in efforts to conserve wildlife in Aceh Timur. Let us work together to preserve nature for future generations.
