Students of SMA Negeri 1 Bireuen Win First Place in Opinion Writing Competition for High School and Vocational High School Students in Aceh in 2024

SERAMBINEWS.COM - Muhammad Aldi, a student of SMA Negeri 1 Bireuen, emerged as the first winner of the 2024 Environmental Opinion Article Writing Competition for High Schools and Vocational Schools throughout Aceh.

Aldi achieved the highest total score from the five judges, namely 464 for the work he wrote and presented entitled Climate Village, Real Solution to Facing Climate Change in Aceh.

Second place was won by Khansa Kamila Nourman from SMAS Darul Qur'an Aceh with a score of 456.5 for her work entitled Waqf Forest, Solution and Inspiration for the World.

Third place was won by Nasywa Difa Batuah, a student of SMA Negeri 1 Lhokseumawe City, with a score of 455.5 for her work entitled Gen Z's Hands, Hope and Earth Disaster.

In addition, there were two of the ten finalists who were named favorite winners, namely Nurul Aina, a student of SMAN 1 Matangkuli, North Aceh, with a score of 449.5 for her work entitled Reviving Ancestral Traditions; Meuseuraya for a Better Environment.

Next, Zahra Thusita Dhia from SMAN 7 Banda Aceh City with a score of 446.5 for her work entitled Trash to Treasure, Unique Creations from Used Materials.

The names of the winners of this competition were announced together with the implementation of the Sports Education Seminar in the Context of the 65th Hardikda Commemoration on Monday, September 2, 2024 at 14.00 WIB in the Aceh Education Office Hall.

The person who announced the names of the winners was Kurniawan as the Aide de Camp (ADC) of the Aceh Education Office, as well as representing the jury.

The judges for this competition consisted of Sulaiman Tripa (writer and Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Syiah Kuala University), Yarmen Dinamika (journalist for the Serambi Indonesia Daily and Advisor to the Aceh Menulis Forum), Risman Rachman (writer, former Deputy Director of Walhi Aceh), Irwan Saputra (Public Relations Staff of the Aceh Education Office), and Raja Mulkan (HaKA Foundation Staff).

Initially, there were 282 opinion articles submitted to the committee. After the turnitin test (plagiarism checker) was carried out, only 139 works were eligible to enter the assessment round by the jury.

After being assessed, ten works were eligible to advance to the final round. The finalists were invited and facilitated to come to Banda Aceh to present and answer questions from the jury.

The final event of this competition was held in the Jeumpa Mannheim Hotel Hall which was opened directly by the Head of the Aceh Education Office, Marthunis DEA.

Marthunis congratulated the finalists who came from various districts/cities in Aceh.

"Congratulations to the finalists. You are the best. And this is the culmination of our literacy skills," said Marthunis.

He reminded the finalists not to be disappointed and discouraged if they did not win the competition this time.

"Please join another competition later. We will increase the number of opinion article writing competitions and other written works," added Marthunis.

This competition carries the theme of Sustainable Environment with a choice of five sub-themes, including waste management, climate change, the dangers of illegal wildlife trade, and environmental education in schools.

During the award ceremony on Monday afternoon at the Aceh Education Office Hall, the Head of the Aceh Education Office, Marthunis ST DEA, directly presented it to Muhammad Aldi as the first winner of the competition.

The first winner received Rp2,500,000 in coaching money, the second winner Rp2,000,000, the third winner Rp1,500,000.

The favorite winners each received Rp500,000 in coaching money.

In addition, each winner also received a certificate, trophy, plaque, and merchandise.

Head of Aceh Education Office, Marthunis assessed that this opinion article writing competition is very beneficial for improving students' reasoning skills and analytical and critical attitudes in literacy.

"For that reason, in the future we will increase the number of opinion writing competitions among students," said Marthunis.

This competition was held in collaboration with the Aceh Education Office and the Aceh Forest, Nature, and Environment Foundation (HaKA).

The Head of Aceh Education Office also expressed his gratitude to the HaKA Foundation which has been a partner of the Aceh Education Office for four years in the opinion article writing competition for students in Aceh. (*)
