MISSION

Strengthening synergies of stakeholders and acting as a catalyst to advocate for policies in the district, provincial and national level to improve the protection of the Leuser Ecosystem.

Our path forward

HAkA’s strive to strenghten the protection, conservation and restoration of the Leuser Ecosystem existing and future threats. We are actively promoting the importance of the Leuser Ecosystem as one of the key landscape for nature-based solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity protection and sources of ecosystem services needed to ensure long-term prosperity for communities in Aceh and the world. Our works are based on three pillars: Advocate, Empower and Monitor.

Advocate

HAkA engages in advocacy works to improve environmental policies, raise public awareness, and oppose inappropriate development plans in the Leuser Ecosystem.

Empower

HAkA engages with the communities to equip them with the capacity to take control of their own development and manage their natural resources by fostering local leadership, form association for collective voice, and promoting sustainable livelihood. HAkA’s empowerment works also include improving the capacity of its NGOs and government partners as well as other community groups.

Monitor

HAkA systematically observes and tracks changes in forest cover and land-use in Leuser Ecosystem, which involves the use of satellite imagery and remote sensing. The data is then analysed and used to inform conservation actions, strategies, and decision-making.
